How to move your videos from Wistia to Pellio

Bring your Wistia library across with titles, descriptions, captions, thumbnails and projects, then swap your embeds. Your Wistia videos keep playing until you’re done.

Before you start

  • A Pellio account (the Free plan is fine to try it; your plan’s storage needs to fit the files you import)
  • Access to your Wistia account settings to create an API token

  1. Create a Wistia API token

    In Wistia, go to Account → Settings → API Access and create a token with read access to your media.

    Pellio uses the token for this import only and never stores it. You can delete it in Wistia afterwards.

  2. Find your videos in Pellio

    In Pellio, open your Library, click Import and choose Wistia. Paste the token and click Find videos. You’ll see up to 1,000 videos per run with their thumbnails, lengths and projects, all selected: untick any you don’t want to move. Only videos are imported, not images or audio.

  3. Import

    Choose whether to recreate your Wistia projects as Pellio folders, then click Import. Each video is copied and processed in the background with its title, description, captions and thumbnail. Timestamps like “0:00 Intro” in a description become chapters.

  4. Recreate forms and calls to action

    Wistia’s Turnstile forms and calls to action don’t come across automatically. Open each video’s Interactions tab in Pellio to add email forms, calls to action, cards and end screens, and connect your CRM in Settings → Integrations (HubSpot, Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Customer.io or Klaviyo).

  5. Replace your embeds

    On WordPress: install the Pellio plugin and connect it to your account. In Pellio → Migration, scan your site for Wistia embeds, preview the changes, and replace them with the matching Pellio videos across every post, with undo. Or use WP-CLI.

    Anywhere else: open each video in Pellio, go to Embed & share and copy the embed code, the web component or a popover into your page.

  6. Check, then switch Wistia off

    Watch a few pages to make sure everything plays and your forms work, and check the videos’ privacy and domain settings in Pellio. Then you can downgrade or cancel Wistia.

Questions, answered

What happens to my Wistia stats and leads?+
They stay in Wistia. Export anything you want to keep before you cancel; Pellio’s analytics start from the first view on Pellio.
Do my old Wistia embeds keep working?+
Until you delete the videos or close your Wistia account. Swap embeds before you do.
What about Wistia Channels?+
Pellio has playlists (a series of videos in one embed) and share pages rather than Channels.
Can a teammate run the import?+
Owners, admins and members can. Teammates who only have access to shared folders can’t.
