Privacy and access

Set these in the Privacy card on a video’s page.

The Privacy card: who can watch, domains, downloads, password and countries

Who can watch

  • Public: anyone, and the share page can appear in search results.
  • Unlisted: anyone with the link or the embed. The share page is hidden from search engines.
  • Private: only signed-in members of your workspace, embeds signed by a WordPress site connected to your workspace, and share and review links. Copying the embed code to another site doesn’t work.

To change many videos at once, tick them in the Library and use Privacy….

Only play on my allowed domains

With this on (the default for new videos), the video only plays when it’s embedded on a domain listed in Settings → General → Allowed embed domains (use *.example.com for subdomains), on its Pellio share page, or on a connected WordPress site. Everywhere else the player shows “This video can’t be played on” that site.

Let viewers download

Adds Download to the player’s settings menu, for the original file.

Viewer password

Add a password and viewers are asked for it inside the player before it plays. Your dashboard, connected WordPress sites and share links skip the password. Remove password turns it off.

In the Share links card, New link makes a link that plays the video, even if it’s private or has a password, until it expires. Say Who is it for? and when it Expires: in 1 hour, 24 hours, 7, 30 or 90 days, or never.

The Share links card, with a link that expires in 30 days

Send the link (it opens a page on pellio.io), or Copy embed to put it on a site. Each link shows how many times it’s been opened. An expired link can be renewed for 7 days, and Turn off stops a link at once. People opening an expired or turned-off link see “Link unavailable”.

Use share links for webinar replays, time-limited offers or sharing a private video with someone outside your team. The same card makes SCORM and cmi5 packages for your LMS.

For feedback rather than viewing, use a review link: guests can also leave time-coded comments.

Countries (geo-blocking)

Under Countries, choose Everywhere (the default), Only in to play the video only in the countries you list, or Not in to play it everywhere except them. Type a country’s name to add it. Only in needs at least one country.

It applies to embeds, share pages, share links, playlists and WordPress sites. Your own previews in the dashboard always play, and so do review links. Viewers where it’s blocked see “This video isn’t available in your country.”

The country comes from the viewer’s IP address, using IP Geolocation by DB-IP. Viewers on a VPN appear in the VPN’s country, and with Only in, viewers whose country can’t be worked out are blocked.
