Google Analytics 4

See video starts, progress and completions next to the rest of your GA4 data.

What you can do

  • Send video_start, video_progress (at 25, 50, 75 and 90%) and video_complete to gtag().
  • Get the video’s details with each event: video_title, video_url, video_provider, video_duration, video_current_time and video_percent.
  • Use video events in GA4 reports, audiences and conversions.

Set it up

Google Analytics must already be on the page. Then pick the way you embed:

  1. Web component (<pellio-player>): nothing to do. Events are sent automatically. Set window.pellioAnalytics = false to turn them off.
  2. Iframe embeds: add <script src="https://api.pellio.io/assets/analytics-bridge.js" async></script> to the page. It listens for events from every Pellio player on the page.
  3. WordPress: in Pellio → Settings → Player, tick Send video events to Google Analytics / Tag Manager. Pages with videos then send the events.
  4. Play a video and check the events arrive in GA4’s real-time report.

Good to know

  • These are the event names GA4 recommends for video.
  • On WordPress, the same setting covers YouTube and Vimeo videos played in the Pellio player, with the provider in video_provider.
  • Progress is the playhead position. Pellio’s own analytics count unique seconds watched, so the numbers can differ.
  • Embeds with dnt=1 in the player URL aren’t tracked.
  • Works on every plan.
