Google Tag Manager

Use Pellio video events as triggers in Google Tag Manager.

What you can do

  • Push video_start, video_progress (at 25, 50, 75 and 90%) and video_complete to the dataLayer.
  • Read the video’s details from each push: video_title, video_url, video_provider, video_duration, video_current_time and video_percent.
  • Fire any tag from those events, for example an ad platform conversion when someone completes a demo.

Set it up

Tag Manager must already be on the page. Then pick the way you embed:

  1. Web component (<pellio-player>): nothing to do. Events are pushed automatically. Set window.pellioAnalytics = false to turn them off.
  2. Iframe embeds: add <script src="https://api.pellio.io/assets/analytics-bridge.js" async></script> to the page.
  3. WordPress: in Pellio → Settings → Player, tick Send video events to Google Analytics / Tag Manager.
  4. In Tag Manager, create a Custom Event trigger for video_start, video_progress or video_complete, and Data Layer Variables for the fields you need.
  5. Attach the trigger to your tags, then test in Preview mode.

Good to know

  • Progress is the playhead position, not unique seconds watched.
  • Embeds with dnt=1 in the player URL aren’t tracked.
  • For more events (chapters, form submissions, clicks on interactions), listen to the player directly with the Player API.
  • Works on every plan.
