Audio player and podcast feeds
Any Pellio video can be played as audio only, and any playlist can become a podcast that people follow in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Pocket Casts and other podcast apps. New videos you add to the playlist appear as new episodes on their own.
The audio player
Open a video, go to the Embed card and choose Audio player. You get a short player (120 pixels high) with the video’s thumbnail, its title and the controls: handy for interviews, talks and lessons people like to listen to. It plays only the sound, so it loads fast and uses little data. Audio files you upload (MP3, WAV, M4A) always use the audio player.
You can also add ?audio=1 to a player link: https://play.pellio.io/v/VIDEO_ID?audio=1.
Publish a playlist as a podcast
- Create a playlist with the videos you want as episodes (Playlists → New playlist). It has to be unlisted or public.
- On the playlist’s page, in the Podcast feed card, add the Author (who makes the show, as listeners see it) and an Owner email (not shown to listeners: podcast directories send verification emails there).
- Pick a Category and the show’s Language, and turn on Explicit content if it applies.
- Upload a Cover: a square JPEG or PNG, 1400 to 3000 pixels, which is what Apple requires. Without one, the first episode’s thumbnail is used.
- Turn on Publish as a podcast and copy the Feed URL.
- Submit the feed URL once in Apple Podcasts Connect and Spotify for Creators (and any other directory you like). After that, they check the feed for new episodes on their own.
What becomes an episode
- Every video in the playlist that has sound and is ready, unlisted or public, and has no password. Private and password-protected videos are always left out.
- The episode’s title, description and thumbnail come from the video; its date is when the video went live, newest first.
- Replacing a video’s file updates the episode. Removing a video from the playlist removes the episode.
- Domain restrictions don’t apply to podcast apps: once a video is in a published podcast, anyone with the feed can listen to it.
Downloads
The Podcast feed card shows the downloads in the last 30 days. Like other podcast hosts, Pellio counts a download once per listener, episode and day, however many times their app fetches parts of the file.
Plans
Podcast feeds and the audio player are included in Starter and higher plans.
