Embedding and player options
On this page
Open a video’s Embed & share tab to get its embed code. Check the video can play on your site first: see Only play on my allowed domains.

Embed types
- Responsive: fills the width of its container, keeping the video’s shape. Right for almost every site.
- Fixed size: a set Width (px).
- Web component: a
<pellio-player>tag and a script. It sends video events to Google Analytics and Tag Manager automatically and has a JavaScript API. See Player API. - Popover: shows the video’s thumbnail with a play button (or your own link or button) and opens the player in a lightbox.

Playback options
The switches under the embed type set how the video plays wherever it’s embedded: Background video (silent, looping, no controls, for hero sections), Autoplay, Start muted, Loop, Captions on by default, Show controls and Start at (seconds). They’re saved to the video as you change them and apply straight away to every embed, including ones already on your pages and WordPress embeds, so the embed code never needs to change. The video’s own share page always shows a normal player.
Muted autoplay with sound on click: turn on Autoplay (browsers only allow autoplay muted) and leave Background video off. The video starts playing silently with a Click for sound button over it; clicking the button, or the video, turns the sound on and restarts it from the beginning so viewers don’t miss the start. The controls stay available if Show controls is on. Background video is different: it stays silent, loops and has no controls or sound button. Turning on controls or sound switches background mode off.
To make one embed play differently, add parameters to its player URL, for example …/v/VIDEO_ID?autoplay=0. A parameter overrides the saved setting for that embed only:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
autoplay=1 | Start playing on load. If the browser blocks sound, the player starts muted instead. Muted autoplay shows a “Click for sound” button. |
muted=1 | Start muted. |
loop=1 | Play again from the start when it ends. |
start=90 | Start at a time, in seconds (ignored if it’s within the last 5% of the video). |
captions=1 | Turn on the first caption track. |
controls=0 | Hide the controls. This also turns off keyboard shortcuts and casting. |
background=1 | Background video: autoplays muted, loops, and hides the controls and logo. |
color=%23e8492f | Override the player colour for this embed (a URL-encoded hex colour). |
resume=1 | Pick up where the viewer left off on this device, and on any device for signed-in users of a connected WordPress site. |
seeklock=1 | No skipping ahead: viewers can only seek within what they’ve watched. |
email= | Name the viewer in analytics with their email address (URL-encoded). |
preset= | Use a particular player preset for this embed (its id). |
nostore=1 | Anonymous views: nothing is stored on the viewer’s device, so each visit counts as a new viewer. |
dnt=1 | Do not track: no analytics for this embed. |
What viewers get
- Playback speed from 0.5× to 2×, and a Quality choice (Auto, 1080p, 720p, 360p) in the settings menu.
- Previews of the video as they move along the progress bar.
- Picture in picture and fullscreen, AirPlay on Apple devices, and casting to a TV with Chromecast.
- A Transcript in the settings menu when the video has captions: a searchable panel that jumps to the moment you click.
- Chapters, if you’ve added them, and Download if you let viewers download (in the Privacy card).
The player’s look (colour, controls, logo, watermark) comes from its player preset.
Keyboard shortcuts
Space or k plays and pauses, j and l skip back and forward 10 seconds, the left and right arrows skip 5 seconds, the up and down arrows change the volume, m mutes, c toggles captions, f toggles fullscreen, 0–9 jump to 0–90% of the video, < and > change the speed, and Esc closes the settings menu.
Page addresses in analytics
Embed codes from Pellio include referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade" so browsers tell Pellio the full address of the page a video is watched on (for the Top pages and UTM reports). Without it, browsers only send the site’s domain.
Share pages
Every video has a share page at pellio.io/v/VIDEO_ID. Add ?start=SECONDS to start it at a moment. Only public videos’ share pages are shown to search engines, with structured data for the video, its chapters and its transcript. When a video has captions, the page shows its transcript, with Search the transcript.

Pasting a share page into an oEmbed-aware editor, such as Workover, turns it into a player, except for private videos. The player it creates follows the video’s domain rules like any embed.
