Require the latest version for course completion
Updated October 1, 2026
For training that has to stay current, you can require that only watching a video’s latest version counts towards completion.
Turn it on
Open the video, go to its settings and turn on Completion must be on the latest version.
What happens when you replace the video
- Learners who completed the lesson keep their completion while the new version processes.
- Once the new version is live, the next time a learner who completed an older version opens the lesson, it’s reopened: they see “This lesson’s video has been updated since you completed it”, and the lesson is marked incomplete.
- Watching the old version earlier doesn’t count towards the new one. When they’ve watched enough of the new version, the lesson completes again.
- The learner log records the reopening, with the version they watched and the current version.
With the setting off, replacing a video doesn’t change anyone’s completion.
Good to know
- Lessons are reopened when the learner next opens them. Until then, course progress and reports still show them as complete.
- Changes can take up to 5 minutes to reach your site.
This works with the LifterLMS integration and the plugin’s support for other LMSs. See LifterLMS.
