Importing videos
Click Import in the Library. The Import videos window has four tabs.
From a URL
Paste a direct link to a video file (for example https://example.com/video.mp4). Pellio downloads and processes it.
Vimeo and Wistia
Paste an API token and click Find videos. Pellio lists the videos in the account (up to 1,000 per run) with their thumbnails, lengths and folders; they are all selected, so untick any you don’t want, then click Import.
Each video comes across with its title, description, captions and thumbnail. You can recreate your Vimeo folders or Wistia projects as Pellio folders. Vimeo privacy is kept: public videos stay public, unlisted and embed-only videos are Unlisted, and anything restricted is Private. Passwords can’t be copied, so password-protected videos are imported as Private; add a password in Pellio if you need one.
Each file has to fit in your plan’s storage. If one doesn’t, that video shows as failed with the reason, and the rest carry on.
- Vimeo: create a personal access token at developer.vimeo.com → My Apps → Generate token, with the Private and Video Files scopes. Downloads must be available on your Vimeo plan.
- Wistia: create an API token in Account → Settings → API Access with read access to your media. Only videos are imported (not images or audio).
The token is used for that import only and is never stored. Videos you’ve already imported are marked as Imported, so running the import again later only brings in new ones, and a large library can be brought across in several runs.
If a description has timestamps like 0:00 Intro, Pellio turns them into chapters automatically.
Import isn’t available to teammates who only have access to shared folders.
YouTube
Paste links to your YouTube videos, one per line (youtube.com/watch?v=… or youtu.be/…), click Find videos, choose the ones you want and click Import.
YouTube doesn’t allow downloading video files, so these videos stay on YouTube and are added to Pellio as linked videos. They play on their Pellio share page and in Pellio embeds (in YouTube’s player), Pellio records who watched and how much, and they use none of your storage. Descriptions with timestamps become chapters. To use Pellio’s own player, captions, interactions and verified completion, upload the file instead.
Replacing old embeds
If your site runs WordPress, the Pellio plugin can then swap your old Vimeo and Wistia embeds for Pellio across every post, with undo. See WordPress plugin.
