Uploading and replacing videos

What you can upload

Any common video format works (MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV and more), and audio files too, up to 20 GB per file. Pellio converts every upload to adaptive streaming at up to 1080p, depending on the source, so viewers get the best quality their connection allows.

Click Upload video in the Library, or drop files anywhere on the page. With a folder open, uploads go into that folder.

Large files

Files over 32 MB upload in parallel chunks. If your connection drops, or you close the tab, open the Library again in the same browser and choose the same file: the upload continues from where it stopped instead of starting over.

If a video fails to process, its page shows the error and a Retry processing button.

Thumbnails

Pellio picks a thumbnail frame automatically. To change it, pause the player at the top of the video’s page on the frame you want, then click Use frame at … in the Thumbnail card. Or click Upload to use a JPEG, PNG or WebP image. Once you’ve set your own, Reset goes back to the automatic thumbnail.

The Thumbnail card on a video's page

The same card sets the preview clip: pause where you want it and click Preview clip from m:ss. It’s a 4-second silent loop used for the hover preview in the Library and, if your player preset turns it on, as an animated thumbnail.

Replacing a video

To fix a typo or swap in a new cut, click Replace video in the File card. The link, embeds, settings, captions and analytics all stay the same, and viewers see the new version once it has processed. Original downloads the file you uploaded.

To cut the start, the end or sections from the middle without re-uploading, use the Trim tab. See Trimming and chapters.

Organising the library

The Library, with search, sort and folders
  • Search and sort: search video titles, and sort by Newest first, Oldest first, Title or Longest.
  • Folders: create one with the folder button next to Folders in the sidebar. A folder’s options (…) let you Rename it, give its videos a Player preset…, Share folder… with restricted teammates (see Teams and roles), or Delete folder (its videos move to Unfiled). Unfiled shows videos that aren’t in a folder.
  • A video’s folder, tags and preset: in the Organize card on its page. Type tags separated by commas and click Save.
  • Bulk actions: tick videos in the Library, then Move to…, Privacy…, Add tags or Move to Trash.
  • Trash: videos in Trash stop playing immediately and are deleted for good after 30 days. In Trash, Restore brings them back, and Delete forever deletes them now.
