Work with Drive files in the browser

On this page

Every filespace is also in the browser: click Drive in the sidebar, then a filespace. Changes made on someone’s computer or in another browser appear within a few seconds, without reloading the page.

Browse and upload

  • Click a folder to open it. The path at the top takes you back up.
  • Click Upload, or drop files on the page. Files are encrypted in your browser and go straight to storage, so big camera files are fine. They show in the upload tray; closing the tab mid-upload asks first.
  • Click New folder to make a folder where you are.
  • Uploading a file with the same name as one already in the folder saves it as a new version of that file.

Preview and download

Click a video, audio file or image to preview it. Pellio makes a smaller preview of each video and audio file after it’s added; until it’s ready you’ll see Pellio is preparing a preview of this file. Files over 200 GB aren’t previewed. Download original under the preview downloads the file itself.

To download without previewing, open the file’s ⋯ menu and click Download. In Chrome and Edge the browser asks where to save, and any size works. Other browsers download files up to 4 GB; use the desktop app for bigger ones.

Rename, trash and restore

The ⋯ menu has Rename and Move to trash. Deleted files and folders stay in the Trash tab for 30 days; click Restore to put one back where it was. If something else has taken its name in the meantime, it comes back with (restored) added.

Versions

Every save keeps the version before it. Open the file’s ⋯ menu and click Versions to see each one with when it was saved, by whom, from which computer and its size. The download button gets that version; Restore makes it the current one again, as a new version, without copying anything.

Earlier versions and the trash count toward your Drive storage. The Drive storage meter on the Drive page shows how much is current files and how much is earlier versions and the trash.

Labels you may see

  • View only: you can open files in this folder but not change them.
  • Restricted: only the people an admin chose can use this folder.
  • Open by a person and computer: someone has the file open for writing.
  • Making proxy…, Proxy in Proxies or Proxy failed: an editing proxy for this video. See Send Drive files to Review and the Library, and make editing proxies.
