Use the Pellio Drive app on Mac and Windows
On this page
The Pellio Drive app puts each filespace on your computer as a folder. Finder, Explorer, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and any other app open files from it as if they were on a local disk. Only the parts of a file an app reads come down, and anything you’ve opened before opens from your own disk.
Install on a Mac
- Download the Pellio Drive app for Mac (macOS 13 or later): in Pellio, open Drive and click Download for Mac under Your computers. It’s signed by ScaleMath and checked by Apple, and needs nothing else installed.
- Open the disk image, drag Pellio Drive to Applications and open it. It lives in the menu bar, with no Dock icon.
- The first time you mount a filespace, macOS may ask you to allow Pellio Drive in System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → File Providers.
Install on Windows
The Windows app is coming soon. Until then, use Drive in the browser (pellio.io/app → Drive): uploads, downloads, previews, versions and links all work there.
Mount a filespace
Sign in (see Get started with Pellio Drive), then click Mount next to a filespace. It appears in Finder’s sidebar under Locations, like iCloud Drive, and opens. Every file is listed straight away, and its contents come down as an app reads them. Open shows it again and Unmount takes it off this Mac.
Cache and working offline
Parts of files you open are kept on this Mac so they open at once next time. The cache starts at 50 GB: under Cache, type a size and click Set GB. Lowering it frees the space straight away.
To have files on your Mac before you go offline, for example for a trip, right-click a file or folder in Finder and choose Download Now. macOS keeps downloaded files until your disk runs low; Remove Download frees the space yourself.
Saving and uploads
When you save, the file uploads in the background once the app that saved it closes the file, straight to storage. Keep the Mac on and online until it’s done; if it’s interrupted, the upload carries on when the Mac is back online.
While you have a file open for writing, others can open it but not change it. If someone else saved the file before your save could upload, yours is kept next to it as name (conflict, your computer), so neither version is lost. On Windows, a file is locked as soon as you start saving changes to it, and files someone else has open are read-only on your PC until they close them.
